Discover How to Make Money With AI in Nigeria Using Your Phone or Computer
AI is no longer something only programmers and big technology companies can use.
Today, an ordinary person in Nigeria with a smartphone or laptop can use artificial intelligence to write, design, create videos, build websites, automate simple tasks, and provide services to businesses.
But I want to clear up one thing from the beginning.
AI itself does not automatically make you money.
Opening ChatGPT and asking it to “make me money” will not suddenly put naira in your bank account.
You make money when you use AI to solve a problem that somebody is willing to pay you to solve.
For example, a business owner may need someone to create Instagram posts every week. A YouTuber may need a video editor. A small company may want a chatbot to answer customer questions. An author may need a book cover.
AI simply helps you do some of these jobs faster and, in many cases, with fewer resources.
That is what this guide is about.
If you have been wondering how to make money with AI in Nigeria, I will show you 15 practical ways you can turn AI tools into services, products or online businesses.
You don’t have to try everything here. Pick one that matches your skills, learn it properly and start from there.
Can You Really Make Money With AI in Nigeria?
Yes, you can.
But you need to think about AI as a tool, not the business itself.
Imagine giving a carpenter a better drilling machine. The machine makes the carpenter faster, but customers are still paying for the furniture, not because the carpenter owns a drill.
AI works in a similar way.
A writer can use ChatGPT or Claude to research and develop a first draft faster. A graphic designer can use AI image tools to develop concepts. A video editor can use AI to generate captions or remove backgrounds. A business consultant can use AI and automation tools to reduce repetitive work.
The opportunity is especially interesting for Nigerians because many of these services can be provided online. You can work with local Nigerian businesses or international clients.
You also don’t need to buy every AI subscription you see online. I have previously discussed some useful AI tools for solopreneurs and small businesses if you want to understand what different tools can actually help you do.
Your goal should be simple:
Learn a useful skill → use AI to improve how you deliver it → find people who need that skill → charge for the result.
Let’s look at the different ways you can do that.
15 Ways to Make Money With AI in Nigeria
1. Offer AI-Assisted Content Writing and Copywriting
One of the easiest ways to make money with AI in Nigeria is through writing.
Businesses need blog posts, website content, product descriptions, emails, social media captions, advert copy and video scripts.
AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini can help you research topics, create outlines, develop drafts and edit your writing.
But don’t make the mistake of copying whatever ChatGPT gives you and sending it directly to a client.
Clients are paying for useful content, not raw AI output.
For example, imagine a Nigerian real estate company needs an article titled “How to Buy Land Safely in Lagos.” You can research the topic, use AI to develop an outline, write the article, verify important facts, remove repetitive AI language and make the final content sound natural.
That is a real service.
You can find clients through freelance platforms, LinkedIn, social media, direct outreach or your personal network.
I have an entire guide on how to write with ChatGPT without sounding like AI. It is worth understanding because the better you become at editing AI-assisted writing, the more useful your service becomes.
Learn writing first. Then allow AI to make you faster.
2. Create Graphics With AI
You don’t necessarily have to be an expert in Photoshop before you can start making simple graphics for businesses.
AI tools can help you create concepts, images, backgrounds, illustrations and design elements. Tools such as Canva can then help you put everything together into a usable design.
You could create social media graphics, YouTube thumbnails, flyers, event posters, presentation graphics, product mockups and simple advertising creatives.
For example, imagine a restaurant in Enugu wants ten Instagram graphics promoting different meals.
You could use AI to help generate concepts or supporting images, then arrange the final designs properly in Canva while adding the restaurant’s correct prices, branding, contact details and colours.
The important word here is properly.
Generating a random beautiful AI image isn’t the same thing as being a designer.
You still need to understand basic ideas such as text placement, contrast, spacing, branding and readability.
Start by recreating good designs you see online for practice. Build five to ten strong samples and put them in a simple portfolio.
You can then approach restaurants, fashion sellers, event planners, churches, schools and other businesses that regularly need graphics.
AI gives you speed. Your understanding of what the customer actually needs is what makes the service valuable.
3. Manage Social Media Accounts With AI
Thousands of businesses know they should post on social media but don’t have the time to do it consistently.
That creates an opportunity.
You can offer social media management and use AI to handle some of the heavy work.
For example, AI can help you develop content ideas, write captions, create content calendars, rewrite posts for different platforms, research competitors and generate basic graphics.
Imagine managing the Instagram and Facebook pages of a small skincare business.
Instead of waking up every morning wondering what to post, you could create a monthly content plan. One day might explain a product. Another post could answer a customer question. Another could show a customer review.
AI can help you develop these ideas much faster.
However, don’t allow AI to blindly run the account.
You still need to understand the business, respond appropriately to customers and study which posts are actually performing well.
My guide to creating a social media strategy for a Nigerian business explains the planning side in more detail.
If you can combine good social media skills with AI, you can manage more clients without spending your entire day writing captions.
4. Start a Faceless YouTube Channel With AI
This is one of my favourite uses of AI because you can build a YouTube channel without necessarily showing your face.
AI can help with topic research, outlines, scripts, voiceovers, images, video clips, thumbnails and parts of the editing process.
Let’s say you want to create a channel about African history.
You could research an interesting event, use AI to help structure the script, generate or source appropriate visuals, create narration and edit everything into a proper documentary-style video.
Your face doesn’t need to appear.
Once you build an audience, a YouTube channel can make money through advertising, sponsorships, affiliate marketing and products.
However, AI does not mean you should mass-produce low-quality videos.
YouTube’s current monetization rules say monetized content should be original and authentic. Generic, repetitive or mass-produced AI content without meaningful creator input can be ineligible for monetization.
I have written a much more detailed guide explaining how to make money with AI on YouTube in Nigeria, including the workflow I would use.
And when the channel eventually starts earning, my guide on how to receive YouTube earnings in Nigeria explains the payment side.
5. Create and Sell Digital Products With AI
Instead of always working for clients, you can create something once and sell it repeatedly.
That is where digital products become interesting.
You could create ebooks, templates, planners, checklists, worksheets, prompt packs, business documents, guides or mini-courses.
AI can help you research the topic, organise your ideas, develop outlines, improve explanations and create supporting graphics.
But don’t ask ChatGPT to write a random 100-page ebook and immediately put it online.
Create something that solves a specific problem.
For example, instead of selling “The Ultimate Business Ebook,” you could create a simple “30-Day Instagram Content Planner for Nigerian Fashion Vendors.”
That has a clear user and a clear purpose.
If you understand CV writing, you could create CV templates. If you know social media marketing, you could sell content calendars. If you’re good at AI image prompting, you could sell useful prompt packs.
You also need somewhere to collect payments and deliver your product. I compared two options in my guide to Nestuge vs Selar for Nigerian digital-product sellers.
AI can make product creation easier, but people will only continue buying if the finished product is genuinely useful.
6. Build AI Chatbots for Businesses
A chatbot is a program that can respond to customers automatically.
You have probably seen something similar when you visit a website and a small chat box appears asking, “How can we help you?”
Businesses can use AI chatbots to answer common questions, collect customer information, explain services and guide visitors toward the right product.
That creates another service you can sell.
Imagine a hotel receives the same questions every day:
“How much is a room?”
“Do you have Wi-Fi?”
“What time is check-in?”
“Where are you located?”
Instead of an employee manually answering every simple question, a properly configured chatbot can handle many basic enquiries and send unusual questions to a human.
You don’t necessarily need to build the AI model yourself.
There are no-code and low-code chatbot platforms that let you connect business information to existing AI models.
Your job is to understand the customer’s business, organise the information, configure the bot, test it and make sure it gives sensible answers.
You can charge businesses for the initial setup and, where appropriate, ongoing maintenance.
Start with simple projects. A working FAQ bot for a small business is better than promising to build an advanced “AI employee” you don’t understand.
7. Help Businesses Automate Repetitive Work
Automation simply means making a computer do a repetitive task automatically.
AI can make those automations much smarter.
Tools such as Make, Zapier and n8n can connect different apps so information moves between them without someone copying and pasting everything manually.
For example, imagine a business receives enquiries through an online form.
Normally, somebody might have to open the form, copy the customer’s information into a spreadsheet, send an email and notify a salesperson.
An automation could do those steps automatically.
AI could also help classify the enquiry, summarise it or write a personalised response.
This is valuable because businesses don’t only want “AI.” They want to save time, reduce mistakes and get work done faster.
You can learn automation by starting with your own small workflows.
For example, create a system that collects information from a form, adds it to Google Sheets and sends an automatic confirmation.
Once you understand the basics, build demonstration projects and approach small businesses.
Don’t begin by trying to automate an entire company.
Find one boring, repetitive problem and solve it properly. That is often easier to sell than making vague promises about “AI transformation.”
8. Teach People How to Use AI
You don’t need to invent artificial intelligence before you can teach people how to use it.
If you understand a useful AI workflow better than the people around you, you can teach it.
For example, you could train teachers on using AI to prepare lesson materials, business owners on using ChatGPT for marketing, creators on AI video production or students on using AI responsibly for research.
Training could happen through one-on-one coaching, group classes, recorded courses, webinars or company workshops.
The important thing is that you should actually know what you’re teaching.
Watching three YouTube videos about ChatGPT does not automatically make you an AI expert.
Choose a narrow area and become good at it.
Instead of offering a vague course called “Master AI,” you could teach “How Nigerian Small Businesses Can Use ChatGPT to Create a Monthly Content Plan.”
That tells the customer exactly what they will learn.
I already offer coaching around digital marketing and related online skills, so I have seen why practical training works better when people leave knowing exactly what to do next.
Your students should be paying for clarity and experience, not information they could have obtained from one simple Google search.
9. Use AI for Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing means recommending somebody else’s product and earning a commission when a qualifying sale happens through your referral.
AI can make parts of that process easier.
For example, it can help you research products, understand customer questions, generate comparison ideas, outline review articles, write video scripts and repurpose content for social media.
But don’t turn affiliate marketing into spam.
Posting your affiliate link under every Facebook post you see is not a business strategy.
A better approach is to build useful content around a problem.
Imagine you promote an AI video tool.
You could create a YouTube tutorial showing beginners how to use it, publish a detailed review or compare it with another tool. If somebody finds your content useful and decides to purchase through your referral, you earn a commission according to that affiliate programme’s rules.
You can do this through a blog, YouTube channel, email list or social media audience.
The biggest mistake beginners make is focusing on the affiliate link before building trust.
Start with useful content.
Recommend tools you genuinely understand.
And always disclose affiliate relationships where required.
AI can help you create the content faster, but people still need a reason to trust your recommendation.
10. Build Websites With AI
Website development has become much easier because AI can now help with design ideas, website copy and even code.
You could use platforms such as WordPress, Wix, Framer or other website builders and offer simple websites to small businesses.
Imagine finding a local plumbing company that only uses WhatsApp and has no proper website.
You could build a simple site showing its services, areas served, contact information, customer reviews and a clear button for requesting a quote.
AI could help you organise the pages, draft some of the initial copy and solve basic technical problems.
But you still need to understand how websites work.
You should know about domains, hosting, mobile responsiveness, forms, basic SEO and site security.
You don’t need to become a senior software engineer before building a five-page business website, but you shouldn’t sell something you cannot maintain.
If you eventually want to go beyond websites and build actual applications, my guide to app development strategies for Nigerian solopreneurs covers important principles such as solving a real problem before worrying about fancy features.
Start small, build examples and improve from one project to the next.
11. Become an AI-Powered Virtual Assistant
A virtual assistant helps individuals or businesses handle tasks remotely.
This might include organising documents, researching information, managing calendars, answering emails, preparing reports, entering data or updating spreadsheets.
AI can help you complete many of these tasks faster.
Imagine working as a virtual assistant for a consultant.
The consultant sends you notes from a meeting. You can use AI to organise them into a summary, identify action points and prepare a follow-up email.
You still check everything before sending it.
Another client might ask you to research twenty companies. AI can help organise the information after you collect it.
The advantage is that you become more productive without needing ten different employees.
However, be careful with confidential information.
Don’t upload private client documents, passwords or sensitive customer information into random AI platforms without understanding how that service handles data.
To start, learn everyday tools such as Google Docs, Sheets, email, calendars and basic project-management software.
Then add AI on top of those skills.
A client is not hiring you because you know how to type prompts. They are hiring you because they want a reliable person who can take work off their hands.
12. Sell Prompt Engineering and AI Workflow Services
A prompt is simply an instruction you give an AI system.
For example:
“Write a Facebook post” is a prompt.
A better prompt might explain the audience, tone, goal, length, examples and information the AI should use.
Some people make money by building useful prompt systems for individuals and businesses.
However, I would not advise simply selling a PDF containing 5,000 random ChatGPT prompts.
The stronger opportunity is helping somebody create a repeatable workflow.
For example, you could create a prompt system for a real estate company that takes property information and helps its staff produce listing descriptions, Instagram captions, email announcements and video scripts in the company’s preferred tone.
That solves an actual business problem.
You could also build prompt templates for customer support, sales outreach, content planning or internal documentation.
To become good at this, you need to understand how different AI models respond to instructions, context and examples.
Test your prompts repeatedly.
Don’t promise perfect output every time.
AI systems can make mistakes, so important information still needs human review.
The value isn’t in writing one magical sentence. The value is creating a system that helps someone get useful results consistently.
13. Offer AI-Assisted Video Editing
More businesses and creators are publishing videos, which means video editing remains a useful skill.
AI can speed up several parts of editing.
Depending on the software, it can help generate captions, clean audio, remove backgrounds, identify highlights, resize content, generate supporting visuals and turn longer videos into shorter clips.
Imagine a Nigerian business coach records a 30-minute talking-head video.
You could edit the main YouTube video and then turn useful sections into shorter videos for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube Shorts.
Instead of the client hiring different people for every platform, you can provide the complete repurposing service.
Tools such as CapCut make many beginner editing tasks easier, but the tool will not automatically make your videos interesting.
You still need to understand pacing, storytelling, sound, visual selection and when to cut a boring section.
Start by editing your own practice videos.
Then edit a few sample videos that demonstrate different styles.
You can approach YouTubers, podcasters, coaches, businesses and content creators.
AI has made editing faster, but clients are still paying for a finished video that people can actually enjoy watching.
14. Offer AI Translation and Localisation Services
AI can translate text between many languages, but translation is not always as simple as replacing one word with another.
This is where people who understand multiple languages can add value.
For example, a company may want to adapt marketing material from English into Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa or another language.
You could use AI to produce an initial translation and then review it for meaning, grammar, cultural context and natural expression.
This human review is important.
A sentence can be technically translated and still sound strange to a native speaker.
Localisation goes even further.
Instead of merely translating words, you adjust the content for the people who will actually read it.
For example, an international company’s advert might mention situations or expressions that make sense in the United States but sound confusing in Nigeria.
A local translator can adjust those parts while preserving the original message.
You could offer this service for articles, subtitles, video scripts, product descriptions, training materials and website pages.
If you’re fluent in another language, AI can increase your speed.
But don’t sell translation in a language you don’t understand just because an AI tool can generate it. You need enough knowledge to notice when the AI gets something wrong.
15. Become an AI Consultant for Small Businesses
AI consulting is probably the most advanced option on this list.
Instead of selling one service, you help a business understand where AI can actually improve how it works.
For example, a small company might tell you:
“We keep hearing about AI, but we don’t know what we should use it for.”
Your job is not to recommend twenty shiny tools.
You first understand how the company works.
Maybe employees spend hours replying to the same customer questions. Maybe leads are not being followed up. Maybe content creation takes too long. Maybe staff manually copy data between different systems.
You identify those problems and recommend practical solutions.
Sometimes the answer might be a chatbot. Another time it could be automation, an internal AI assistant or simply teaching staff how to use an existing tool properly.
This requires more experience than basic prompting.
You need to understand business processes, AI limitations, privacy, automation and the tools you’re recommending.
So I wouldn’t make this your first AI side hustle if you’re completely new.
Learn one or two of the skills in this article first. Work with real clients. Understand the problems businesses face.
Then you can gradually move from being someone who uses AI tools to someone who helps businesses make better decisions about AI.
How to Choose the Right AI Money-Making Method
After reading 15 different ideas, it is easy to become confused and decide you want to do everything.
Don’t.
You don’t need to become a writer, designer, YouTuber, automation expert, website developer and AI consultant at the same time.
Choose based on what you’re already interested in.
If you enjoy writing, start with AI-assisted content writing.
If you enjoy visuals, look at graphic design or video editing.
If you enjoy teaching, AI coaching may suit you.
If you like solving technical problems, explore automation, chatbot building or website development.
If you already create content, faceless YouTube, digital products or affiliate marketing could fit naturally.
Then spend time learning the skill properly.
Create practice projects before chasing customers.
A graphic designer should have designs to show.
A writer should have writing samples.
A chatbot builder should have a working chatbot demonstration.
An automation specialist should be able to demonstrate a workflow.
Don’t tell potential customers what AI can do.
Show them what you can do with AI.
That difference matters.
What You Need to Start Making Money With AI in Nigeria
You don’t need a massive office.
For many of the opportunities in this guide, you can begin with a smartphone or laptop, reliable internet access and the willingness to learn.
A laptop will make some activities easier, particularly writing, automation, website building, video editing and managing several tools at once.
Your bigger investment should be your skills.
Learn how to communicate with clients. Learn how to research. Learn how to verify information. Learn how to edit AI output instead of blindly trusting it.
You should also learn the specific skill you’re trying to sell.
If you’re offering writing, understand writing.
If you’re offering social media management, understand marketing.
If you’re creating websites, understand websites.
AI should sit on top of your skill.
It shouldn’t replace learning the skill completely.
You also don’t need to pay for ten AI tools on your first day.
Start with free plans where they meet your needs. Upgrade when a paid tool genuinely helps you deliver better work or saves enough time to justify the cost.
Most importantly, start practising.
Watching endless videos titled “10 AI Side Hustles That Will Make You Rich” will not make you money.
Doing the work might.
Final Thoughts: Making Money With AI in Nigeria
There are plenty of ways to make money with AI in Nigeria, but I wouldn’t treat AI like a get-rich-quick scheme.
The people who are likely to benefit most are those who combine AI with a useful skill.
You can write with AI.
Design with AI.
Create videos with AI.
Build websites with AI.
Automate businesses with AI.
Sell products created with the help of AI.
You can even build an entire content business without showing your face.
But somebody still needs to do the thinking.
That person is you.
If I were starting from zero, I would choose just one opportunity from this article and spend the next few weeks learning and practising it.
I would create examples.
Then I would start looking for real people with real problems I could solve.
Once I became good at one service, I could add another.
That is a much more realistic path than jumping from one AI money-making idea to another every week.
AI is moving quickly, and the tools will continue changing.
The most important thing isn’t memorising every new tool.
It is learning how to use whatever tools are available to create something useful.
If you can consistently help people save time, create better content, attract customers, communicate better or run their businesses more efficiently, you have something they may be willing to pay for.
And that is where the money actually comes from.
